"The past few months have definitely been a rollercoaster and I’ve been able to Rise during this time thanks to an awesome support network of family, friends, mentors, and community members. I am currently a graduate student in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont (@uvm_rsenr) and was back home in Colorado for spring break when UVM made the decision to go remote for the rest of the semester. I was grateful to be able to spend the first couple months quarantining with my loved ones while working remotely at my parents’ place. I returned to Vermont at the end of May where I have the company of two wonderful housemates.

"After the murder of George Floyd and the ensuing protests, I have been focusing a lot of my time and energy on self-reflection, self-education, engaging in conversations around racism and oppression, and taking action to help change problematic systems in my personal life as well as my professional/academic one. I have also been taking care of myself by soaking up as much of the gorgeous Vermont summer as I can with bike rides along Lake Champlain, enjoying fresh veggies from our local CSA, and getting to know the area’s lakes, parks, and mountains through hiking and camping. While 2020 has been filled with many unexpected surprises and challenges, I’m hopeful that the past few months will be a catalyst for necessary long-lasting change in myself and in the world at large."
