“I am rising by going to work at Growing to Give, an organic non-profit farm in Brunswick, Maine that donates all of its food to local food banks. In Maine alone, about 181,000 people are food insecure, and this is only exacerbated by the coronavirus. There is a wonderful group of owners, staff, volunteers, and board members at Growing to Give who understand the urgency of this problem, and they have worked hard to donate over 35,000 lbs of produce since it began growing food in 2017.

"In a similar light, there is work to be done on food insecurity off the farm. In late July, a new coronavirus bill was introduced in the Senate that did not include any increase in SNAP benefits, an important way to decrease food insecurity nationally. I had the pleasure to meet with Sen. Collins’ (R-ME) office about the importance of including an increase of SNAP benefits in the new Coronavirus bill.

"To find out more info about food insecurity in Maine, check out Growing to Give Farm!

"When I’m not at the farm or practicing for weirdly formal phone calls with half an eaten peach in my hand, I’m baking, watching Legend of Korra on Netflix, or working out outside!"
