She/Her

A 5’6” hybrid player from D.C., Baranes is an outstanding defender who brings equal parts grit and joy to the game. As an elite on-field communicator, Baranes can anchor her team behind the disc or attack downfield spaces as a cutter.

Equally powerful on the sideline, she was just named an assistant coach for the 2021 U-24 @usaultimate Mixed National Team! Her coaching resume includes the Harvard Quasara Ultimate Team, UMass Amherst mixed, and Amherst girls' varsity Ultimate teams.

A Dartmouth alum, Hannah is also completing her PhD in Geosciences.

“I coach the Amherst High School varsity team, and we practiced together virtually all spring. Connection, routine, exercise, and laughter feel more important now than ever, so we would come together each day to work out, talk about our goals, watch games, or play games.

"I am so proud of the way my athletes show up for each other, even on days that are lonely, sad, or scary. If you’re a coach and want to talk about resources or ideas for connecting with your players, shoot me a message (@hbaranes).

“I’ve also been reflecting on how, as a coach and (past) captain, my leadership has been reinforcing white supremacy. How might I have discouraged or hurt others? Which of the expectations I hold and team norms I set for my players and teammates are racist? How will an anti-racist team culture make my teams stronger?

"I have a lot left to learn, and I have enormous amounts of gratitude for the scholars, educators, activists, and brave people willing to share their experiences who are supporting so many of us in our education.”
