Who is Portland Rising?

  • Portland Rising is a professional women and gender expansive ultimate frisbee team based in Maine, playing in the Premier Ultimate League.

  • At Rising, we honor the whole person. We are committed. We hold an attitude of possibility. We elevate ourselves and lift up those around us. And we are willing to be uncomfortable as we strive for improvement.

  • Our mission is to dream big and work in partnership with our community to RISE together.


Portland Rising’s History

  • 2020 - Portland Rising joined the Premier Ultimate League (PUL) in 2020. The team’s first season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

  • 2021 - Rising’s second inaugural season was held on August 2021 when the team hosted the PUL 2021 Championship Series International Tournament. The Rising Podcast, a series featuring conversations with team leaders about what it means to RISE, was also produced in 2021 and is available wherever you listen (Spotify, Anchor, Google Podcasts, Breaker).

  • 2022 - In 2022, Rising finally played their first full season, ending with an impressive record of 5-1. View games and results here.

  • 2023 - Rising was able to play their second full season, drawing fans from all over to watch them play. View games and results here.

  • 2024 - Rising played in their second full season, adding new viewers and sponsors, while collaborating with youth communities. View games and results here.

Rising was founded by two Maine entrepreneurs, Chloë Rowse and Maddie Purcell, as one of four expansion teams to the Premier Ultimate League in 2020.
